Megyn Kelly will interview Donald Trump on upcoming Fox primetime special

LOS ANGELES — Megyn Kelly will interview presidential candidate Donald Trump as part of her upcoming primetime special on Fox Broadcasting, the network announced Monday.

The special, “Megyn Kelly Presents,” will air Tuesday, May 17. Additional excerpts from the interview will be featured the following night on Kelly’s Fox News show, “The Kelly File.”

Rumors that Trump would be interviewed for the special had circulated for weeks after the two met at Trump Tower in New York in April. Trump has lashed out at Kelly repeatedly throughout his presidential campaign, having initially taken issue with a tough line of questioning from Kelly in a GOP debate last fall over the real-estate mogul’s derogatory comments about women.

“Mr. Trump and I sat down together for a meeting earlier this month at my request,” Kelly said in a statement Monday. “He was gracious with his time and I asked him to consider an interview. I am happy to announce he has agreed, and I look forward to a fascinating exchange — our first sit-down interview together in nearly a year.”

“Megyn Kelly Presents” is the news anchor’s first primetime special on Fox News’ broadcaster cousin. The special is being executive produced by Barbara Walters’ longtime producing partner, Bill Geddie. Fox News CEO Roger Ailes is serving as senior executive producer.

“It has not been enjoyable,” Kelly told Variety last month when asked about Trump’s targeting of her through social media. “I wish it hadn’t happened. I hope it will stop — his focus on me. If he’s determined not to stop, there’s nothing I can do. I don’t like being the story. I think it raises real First Amendment issues. I’ve seen what’s happened with Michelle Fields [the former Breitbart News reporter allegedly grabbed by Trump’s campaign manager] and in my own world, there’s another side to this behavior. It poses real risks to the person under attack.”

Fox last month moved the date of the Kelly special up a week from May 23 to May 17, placing it against NBC’s “The Voice” and the season finale of CBS’ “NCIS.”
