Cuffed woman steals, crashes police car

A 23-year-old Arkansas woman will make an appearance in court on Wednesday after she allegedly stole a police cruiser while handcuffed and crashed it into a gas well.

Greenwood Police Chief Will Dawson said Jessica Sterling fled in her car on June 16 when officers were called to a domestic dispute. After a high-speed chase, she crashed her car into a fence and was arrested, KFSM reported.

Sterling was handcuffed because she was being aggressive, Dawson said. While in the back of the police cruiser, police say Sterling managed to get her hands to the front of her body and climbed through a window to the front seat of the cruiser.

She sped off in the cruiser and crashed into a gas well four miles away, overturning the car.

While in the car, she attempted to grab a rifle in the vehicle. She faces 15 charges including criminal mischief, theft of property and DWI.
