Upon receiving a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Mississippi, Mia has worked as a copy editing intern with the Seattle Times and recently joined the the Las Vegas Review-Journal as a reporter.  She’s had several years of experience as a freelance reporter for The Daily Mississippian, and served some time as a copy editor for the paper as well. In her spare time, she works as a part-time English tutor for Brainfuse, an online tutoring service for high school and college students.

Las Vegas man designs Beatles-themed pinball machine

In conjunction with Gary Stern of Stern Pinball, Joe Kaminkow created a Beatles-themed pinball machine series that will feature music from eight Beatles performances: “A Hard Day’s Night,” “All My Loving,” “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “Drive My Car,” “Help!,” “I Should Have Known Better,” “It Won’t Be Long” and “Ticket to Ride.” Only 1,964 are being made, reflecting the year in which the Beatles came to America.

 
Cowabunga Bay used as Henderson rescue team’s practice grounds

The exercise Oct. 17 came after the Henderson Fire Department’s recent purchase of a $5,000 water raft that will allow them it to more easily access people stranded in high or fast-moving water. The technical team is housed at Station 82.

Crowd treated to College of Southern Nevada students’ films

Violet Baldwin, a former Centennial Hills resident and film student at the College of Southern Nevada, was one of several students whose films were shown Oct. 12 at the seventh annual CSN Short Film Showcase at Nicholas J. Horne Theater on the CSN North Las Vegas Campus. Her films “Que Vida” and “Lance, Camera, Action,” about magician Lance Burton, were featured in the show.
