Mark Anderson has been at the Review-Journal since January 1999. He covered UNLV football for 17 seasons before moving to the men’s basketball beat in January 2016, and was president of the Football Writers Association of America in 2016. Anderson returned to the football beat in 2017 and still covers men’s basketball. The NCAA has at least temporarily changed its policy toward legalized sports betting, clearing the way for Las Vegas to bid on championship events such as the Final Four.
UNLV’s women’s golf and volleyball programs were recognized by the NCAA on Wednesday for finishing in the top 10 of their sports for their Academic Progress Rate scores. Both sports had perfect multiyear scores of 1,000.

Former Bishop Gorman four-star cornerback Alex Perry is transferring from Arizona State to play football at UNLV, a source said Monday. Perry played in four games as an incoming freshman last season and didn’t record any statistics.
Warren LeGarie, who runs the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, said he wasn’t concerned about a new event in Sacramento, California. Las Vegas will have all 30 teams this year for the first time.
UNLV dropped to fifth place in the Mountain West after Sunday’s 10-8 loss to San Jose State. The top four baseball teams make the conference tournament.
UNLV hired Eric Nepomuceno to be in charge of compliance for the athletic department. Athletic director Desiree Reed-Francois also has restructured the compliance office, so Nepomuceno will report to her as well as the president’s office.
UNLV will play Valparaiso in the Mountain West-Missouri Valley Challenge on Nov. 28 at the Thomas & Mack Center. This is the final season of the four-year contract between the conferences.
UNLV will be the fourth seed at the NCAA men’s golf regional tournament May 14 to 16 at Ohio State. The Rebels won the regional last season at Purdue.
