Verrett, Castellanos help 51s to sweep of Salt Lake

Logan Verrett and three relievers combined on a four-hit shutout, and Alex Castellanos went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run as the 51s capped a Pacific Coast League doubleheader sweep over the Salt Lake Bees with a 2-0 win Thursday at Cashman Field.
Cory Vaughn’s three-run double in the sixth inning sent Las Vegas to a 6-4 victory in the opener.
Verrett (3-0) blanked Salt Lake (34-55) on three hits and one walk and struck out six in five innings.
Castellanos hit an RBI single in the first inning and led off the fourth with his PCL-leading 32nd double before scoring on Brandon Allen’s sacrifice fly.
Castellanos went 3-for-3 with two doubles and two runs in the opener, when the 51s (51-38) overcame a 3-2 deficit with a four-run sixth highlighted by Vaughn’s bases-clearing double.
Luis Cessa, making his second Las Vegas start since his promotion from Double-A Binghamton, held the Bees to two runs, none earned, on six hits and no walks and struck out six in 5 2/3 innings. Chase Bradford (4-2) picked up the win in relief.
Danny Muno hit a solo home run in the first inning, and Travis Taijeron had a two-out RBI single in the fourth for the 51s, who were outhit 9-7 in the first game.
Jett Bandy had two doubles and an RBI, and Grant Green had a double and a single in the opener for Salt Lake.
