UNLV women’s tennis edges Fresno State

The UNLV women’s tennis team beat Fresno State 4-3 on Sunday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. The Rebels (14-6, 4-1 Mountain West) took two of three doubles matches for the first point, then split the six singles matches.

Aleksandra Josifoska clinched the win with her 7-6, 6-4 victory over Sherif Ahmed at No. 1 singles. Lucia Batta (No. 2) and Iren Kotseva (No. 6) also notched singles wins.

■ MEN’S GOLF — At Austin, Texas, UNLV shot 18-over 302 in the final round of the Morris Williams Invitational, finishing 11th in the 12-team event at 41-over 893. Host Texas was the only team to finish under par, at 4-under 848.

Carl Jonson led the Rebels, tying for 19th at 4-over 217, 11 shots behind winner Finley Ewing IV of Texas Tech.

■ WOMEN’S GOLF — At Tempe, Ariz., UNLV took 15th in the 17-team Ping/ASU Invitational, shooting 19-over 307 in the final round for a 50-over 914 total. Alabama won at 19-under 845, paced by medalist Emma Talley at 9-under 207.

Dana Finkelstein led the Rebels, tying for 38th at 4-over 220.

■ SOFTBALL — Amanda Oliveto tossed a four-hit shutout as UNLV beat New Mexico 1-0 at Eller Media Stadium. Oliveto, who notched her second straight shutout after blanking the Lobos on Friday, allowed four hits and no walks while striking out eight.

Tayler Van Acker’s first-inning RBI single gave the Rebels (18-23, 4-5 Mountain West) the only run they’d need.
