UNLV lands Desert Oasis offensive lineman
UNLV’s football team nabbed its sixth local player of this recruiting season when Desert Oasis High School offensive lineman Cameron Jefferson committed Sunday.
Jefferson (6 feet 6 inches, 250 pounds), who chose the Rebels over UNR and Northern Arizona, said he was swayed by “the coaches, the players, the togetherness and the environment.
“I want to be part of a new tradition.”
Desert Oasis coach Faron Seibel said the coaches’ commitment under UNLV first-year coach Bobby Hauck to local recruits is getting noticed.
“Bobby recruits, and he’s real good at it,” Seibel said. “One thing I talked to him about was hitting the ground running. Once the local kids get involved, the rest will come in.”
Quarterback Taylor Barnhill (6-4, 210) of Northwest High in Justin, Texas, and tight end Jordan Sparkman (6-5, 230) of Point Loma High in San Diego also told UNLV this weekend they would play for the Rebels.
Barnhill, a Rivals.com three-star prospect, has not visited. Only one recruiting weekend remains before the Feb. 3 signing day.
