Rebels’ new regime keys on tight end

Tight end was not a prominent position in previous UNLV football coach Mike Sanford’s offense. It apparently will be under new coach Bobby Hauck.

Three tight ends are visiting this weekend, and one, Anthony Vidal of Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, Calif., has committed.

Vidal (6 feet 5 inches, 240 pounds) is a Rivals.com three-star prospect. He is one of three players to commit this week. Running back Tim Cornett (6-0, 195) and defensive tackle Kjelby Oiland (6-4, 270) are the others.

Cornett, who attends Houston’s North Shore High School, is a Rivals three-star prospect. Oiland, who goes to Ferris High in Spokane, Wash., is a Scout.com two-star recruit.

In addition to Vidal, the Rebels are bringing in tight ends Evan Hudson (6-6, 235) of Bothell (Wash.) High and Jordan Sparkman (6-5, 230) of Point Loma High in San Diego. Hudson is a Rivals three-star prospect.

Quarterback Cody Fajardo (6-3, 200) of Servite High in Anaheim, Calif., also is making the trip. He is rated by Rivals as a three-star prospect and the nation’s No. 35 quarterback. San Jose State has offered him a scholarship.

Offensive lineman Alex Lewis (6-5, 250) of Mountain Pointe High in Phoenix is listed as a three-star recruit by both recruiting services. Michigan State, Colorado and Air Force have offered scholarships.

Other visitors are linemen Cameron Jefferson (6-6, 250) of Desert Oasis High and Garrett Corbett (6-5, 270) of Reed High in Sparks and running back Dwayne Garrett (6-1, 190) of Chaparral High in Scottsdale, Ariz.
