Top 10 prep basketball player Thon Maker to visit UNLV this weekend

UNLV is still searching for a new basketball coach, but that didn’t prevent one of the nation’s top-ranked players from scheduling an official visit with the Rebels.

Thon Maker, listed by 247Sports.com composite rankings as the nation’s No. 10 prospect, will visit UNLV this weekend.

The 7-foot center from Athlete Institute Basketball Academy in Toronto also will reportedly visit Arizona State on April 18 and Notre Dame on Nov. 25.

This news comes one day after three-star guard Christian Vital announced he was reopening his recruiting process because of the uncertainty with UNLV’s coaching situation. He had signed a scholarship paper with the Rebels in November, allowing him to leave without penalty.

UNLV’s coaches are still working in recruiting. Assistant Ryan Miller posted a picture on Thursday of his visit with UNLV signee Jaylen Fisher.

“Had a great day with @areal_hooper,” Miller wrote. “He is a tough, disciplined, & natural born leader. #truepg #winner #toughness”

Fisher, a 6-2 guard from Bolton High School in Memphis, Tennessee, is one of three players in the Rebels’ current recruiting class. The others are 6-4 forward Carlos Johnson of Findlay Prep and 6-9 forward Justin Jackson of The Hill Academy near Toronto.

Johnson reiterated on Thursday in an interview with the Review-Journal that he remained fully committed to the Rebels.
