Point guard prospect Boatright shows interest in UNLV

Point guard prospect Ryan Boatright is leaning toward committing to Connecticut, according to reports. But he said Friday there’s still a shot he can be swayed in UNLV’s direction.

Boatright, from Aurora, Ill., arrived in Las Vegas for an official campus visit and attended the Rebels’ practice at Cox Pavilion.

“I want to see if I’ve got a good relationship with the players, a good relationship with the coach,” Boatright said. “I like UNLV.

“I like this kind of game — up and down, pick and roll. It fits my style of play.

“I could really blow up in this system.”

The 5-foot-10-inch Boatright, ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 48 player in the class of 2011, recently withdrew his oral commitment to West Virginia after the Mountaineers accepted another point guard recruit, Jabarie Hinds of New York.

Boatright, who averaged 26.2 points and 5.1 assists as a high school junior, said Connecticut, UNLV and Oklahoma lead his list.

“The (UNLV) coaches recruited me before I committed to West Virginia,” he said. “But when I de-committed and opened back up, they were on me heavy, so I took the visit out here.

“UCLA is recruiting me now and a couple other schools I can’t really remember off the top of my head.”

The early signing period opens Wednesday, and the Rebels’ coaches also are showing interest in 5-11 guard Allan Guei of Compton, Calif.

Grandy Glaze, a 6-6 forward from Notre Dame Prep in Fitchburg, Mass., committed to UNLV in March.
