Lady Rebels put Kelli Thompson, Rejane Verin on all-conference teams

UNLV women’s basketball players Kelli Thompson and Rejane Verin won all-Mountain West honors when the coaches’ selections were announced Monday.

Thompson, who led the league in scoring at 19 points per game, was named to the all-Mountain West first team. It was the third time the senior earned all-conference honors.

Verin, who averaged 11.5 points and 8.4 rebounds per game, was named freshman of the year and honorable mention all-conference.

San Diego State’s Chelsea Hopkins was named player of the year, and Beth Burns was coach of the year after the Aztecs won the regular-season title.

Joining Thompson on the first team were Hopkins, Moore, Courtney Clements of San Diego State and Chaundra Sewell of Wyoming.

Other top honors: Ki-Ki Moore, Fresno State, defensive player; Antiesha Brown, New Mexico, sixth player; and Brandi Henton, Boise State, newcomer.

Verin was also named Mountain West co-player of the week.

She had 26 points, 19 rebounds, four steals and two blocks in the Lady Rebels’ 70-60 win at Boise State, and 18 points and 14 rebounds in a 90-64 loss at Fresno State.
