Hampton’s feat propels Lady Rebels

Senior center Shamela Hampton became the 18th UNLV women’s basketball player to score 1,000 points, leading the Lady Rebels to a 78-64 victory over Air Force on Saturday at Cox Pavilion.

Hampton scored 17 points, giving her 1,001 for her career. She also grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds.

After trailing 29-29 at halftime, UNLV took control with a 20-5 run early in the second half. Air Force got no closer than eight points after that.

Jamie Smith added 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Rebels, who are 9-11 overall and 2-5 in the Mountain West Conference. India Chaney had 13 points and Dominique Harris 10 for UNLV, which shot 57.1 percent in the second half.

Raimee Beck led Air Force (4-16, 0-7) with 19 points.
