Hampton powers Lady Rebels to win over UC Irvine

Shamela Hampton had 27 points and 11 rebounds, and the UNLV women’s basketball team beat UC Irvine 85-73 on Sunday in Irvine, Calif., for its first road win of the season.

Hampton went 10-for-13 from the floor and 7-for-9 from the free-throw line to lead all scorers. Sequoia Holmes had 14 points, Dominique Harris had 11 and Allison Holiday 10 off the bench for the Lady Rebels (3-6).

UNLV, which led 42-39 at halftime, scored the first eight points of the second half to pull away. After letting the Anteaters (4-5) back within five at 58-53, the Lady Rebels went on a 10-2 run to regain control.
