UNLV 51, Colorado State 34 (halftime)

It’s halftime at the Thomas & Mack and it’s raining threes inside as UNLV is firing away from everywhere to dominate. The Rebels have eight made 3-pointers with Mo Rutledge coming off the bench to nail three treys. They’re also shooting 65 percent from the floor (20 of 31) and are 8 of 11 from long distance.

Tre’Von Willis has 14 points while Oscar Bellfield and Rutledge have nine apiece to lead the Rebels. Things have been so out of sorts for the Rams that coach Tim Miles had to burn three timeouts in the opening 20 minutes in an attempt to stop the bleeding. It didn’t work as UNLV led by 17 at the break.

The one bright spot for CSU was Andre McFarland as the Las Vegan has 11 points.

Nice tribute

As mentioned earlier, it’s NBA All-Star Weekend and in tribute to those great slam dunk artists of years past, props to Colorado State’s Willis Gardnerr, who had a flowin’ ‘Fro a la Dr. J and Darnell Hillman.

If you don’t know who Darnell Hillman was, do a search on the Internet when you’re done reading this and you’ll see what I mean. And if you’re a San Jose State alumnus and you don’t know who Darnell Hillman is, shame on you.

Kiss Cam OT

With it being Valentine’s Day, you just know the Thomas & Mack scoreboard guys are going to fire up the “Kiss Cam” early and often.

For the uninitiated, the in-house camera guys find couples sitting together in the stands, put them on the video scoreboard and usually, it results in a smooch. Everyone cheers and that’s pretty much that.

Yeah, it’s cheesy. But what would you expect on Valentine’s Day?
