Regents approve Sanford’s contract extension

The state Board of Regents today approved UNLV football coach Mike Sanford’s three-year contract extension.

"I am very pleased with the regents’ decision, and I feel we are continuing to improve both on the field and in the classroom," UNLV athletic director Mike Hamrick said.

Sanford’s deal takes him through the 2012 season. He earns $425,000 per year, and UNLV can buy him out for $225,000 at any time.

The Rebels went 5-7 last season, their best record in Sanford’s four seasons.
