REBELS AND LOBOS SET TO KICK OFF

UNLV is looking to end a five-game losing streak when it hosts New Mexico at Sam Boyd Stadium tonight at 7.

This weekend is known as “Family Weekend” on campus and there are signs all over the stadium acknowledging the event.

Judging by the sparse crowd tonight, what that apparently means is only family is allowed into the game.

There is a very small crowd for this meeting of subpar Mountain West teams.

PAYNE IN UNIFORM

After missing last week’s game against Texas Christian, freshman sensation Phillip Payne is in uniform and should be back to full strength.

He suffered a concussion two weeks ago at Brigham Young and was unable to go against the Horned Frogs.

His presence should be a big boost for freshman Mike Clausen, who will make his first start at quarterback.

BELL MAKES APPEARANCE

Former UNLV linebacker Beau Bell is one of the very few people in attendance tonight.

Bell’s Cleveland Browns played on Thursday night this week, enabling him to make the trip back to Las Vegas.
