PLANTE’S UNLV CAREER DECLARED OVER
May 29, 2009 - 1:16 pm
Tight end Luke Plante was denied an extra year of eligibility by the NCAA, ending his UNLV football career.
Coaches were hopeful of a positive ruling when the NCAA allowed Plante to participate in spring practices. Plante was hoping to play another year after missing nearly an entire season at Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., because of a knee injury.
Losing Plante is a blow for the Rebels, but they don’t emphasize the tight end in their spread offense so it’s not as major of a setback as it would be in a traditional scheme. Still, Plante would have been the only tight end with game experience. Now the Rebels will go into training camp in August with two sophomores and two redshirt freshmen competing for the spot.
