UNLV women’s soccer posts shutout win over Fresno State

The UNLV women’s soccer team got a solid effort from goalkeeper Kylie Wassell, who made the Rebels’ lone goal stand up in a 1-0 victory over host Fresno State in the regular-season finale.

Wassell finished with six saves for the Rebels (11-3-4, 3-1-3 Mountain West Conference), who were outshot 14-10 overall and 6-5 in shots on goal.

UNLV broke through in the 65th minute, with Susie Bernal taking a cross from Jenn Wolfe and putting it past Bulldogs goalie Katie Devault.

The Rebels head into the Mountain West tournament having lost just once since a 3-0 setback at Kansas on Aug. 26, going 10-1-3 in that stretch.

■ SWIMMING AND DIVING – The UNLV men’s team earned a split in its double-dual meet at Buchanan Natatorium, edging Denver 151-149 and losing to No. 11 Arizona 180.5-114.5, while the UNLV women’s team lost to Denver 152-146.5 and fell to Arizona 118-105.

The men’s squad took first and third in the final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay, to overtake Denver. Other UNLV winners included Balint Batka (200 butterfly) and Giacoma Gremizzi (200 individual medley).

The women’s team got wins from Mariah Skeen (1-meter, 3-meter diving) and Jessica Heim (1,000 freestyle).
