UNLV women’s golf tied for sixth at Cal tournament

The UNLV women’s golf team shot 14-over 302 in the first round of the Cal Classic on Monday and was tied for sixth in the 11-team event at Pleasanton, Calif.

Charlotte Brooks and Dana Finkelstein led the Rebels, as both shot 2-over 74 to stand tied for 10th. Arizona State’s Noemi Jimenez shot 68 to take the individual lead and put the Sun Devils atop the team standings at 8-over 296.

■ BASEBALL — UNLV’s Kenny Oakley was named Mountain West pitcher of the week. The freshman out of Coronado High School threw seven shutout innings, striking out seven while allowing two hits and two walks, in a 4-0 win over Gonzaga on Saturday.
