UNLV women win opener in MW tennis

The UNLV women’s tennis team opened the Mountain West championship tournament with a 4-1 victory over Air Force on Wednesday in Fresno, Calif.

The Rebels (11-10 on the season) will face top-seeded Fresno State (13-8) on Friday.

UNLV took the doubles point by winning two matches: Aleksandra Josifoska-Iren Kotseva downed Anastasia Hueffner-Marcelli Magday and Santa Shumilina-Lucia Batta beat Natasha Rizvi-Mary Meyers.

The Rebels won three of four completed singles matches to clinch the victory: Batta defeated Tiffany Tran (6-1, 6-1), Josifoska beat Meyers (6-2, 6-1) and Paola Artiga beat Lily Forlini (6-1, 6-3).
