UNLV women finish fourth in MWC golf championship

The UNLV women’s golf team took fourth Saturday in the seven-team Mountain West Conference Championships in Seaside, Calif.

UNLV shot 27-over-par 315 in the third round for a 64-over 928 total, 30 strokes behind New Mexico, which beat Texas Christian by nine shots for the title. The Lobos’ Jodi Ewart took the individual title at 1-over 217.

Therese Koelbaek led the Rebels, shooting 5-over 77 in the final round for a 13-over 229 total. Koelbaek tied for eighth in the 35-player field to land on the All-MWC team for the third straight year.

■ UNLV WOMEN’S TENNIS — At San Diego, the Rebels routed Wyoming 6-1 for their fifth straight victory.

UNLV (19-3, 6-1 MWC), ranked 36th, swept the three doubles matches to go up 1-0, then took five of six singles points. Kristina Nedeltcheva paced the Rebels with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Sarah Summerfield at the No. 1 slot.

■ UNLV MEN’S TENNIS — At Provo, Utah, Brigham Young blanked the Rebels 7-0 in MWC play. UNLV (12-10, 2-3) was swept in the six singles matches and lost two of three in doubles.

■ UNLV BASEBALL — At New Orleans, the Rebels committed four errors on the way to a 7-1 loss to Tulane, ending a four-game overall winning streak and a five-game road win streak.

The Green Wave got all the runs they needed in the second inning, scoring four times (two unearned). UNLV (21-14) got its run in the eighth inning on a Hunter Beaty RBI single.

■ UNLV SOFTBALL — The Rebels lost to San Diego State 4-0 in an MWC game at Eller Media Stadium. UNLV (26-15, 3-1), which had its six-game winning streak snapped, left seven runners stranded, including four in scoring position.

■ UNLV TRACK — At Walnut, Calif., Chauncey David-Jacobs was fifth in the 200-meter dash, and Shahnel Woodley wa fifth in the 100 to lead the Rebels at the Mt. SAC Relays. UNLV’s 4×100 relay team took third, posting the fastest time of any collegiate team at 45.58 seconds.

■ CSN BASEBALL — At Carson City, second-ranked College of Southern Nevada dropped another doubleheader to No. 11 Western Nevada, which completed a four-game sweep.

The Coyotes (34-10, 21-7 Scenic West Athletic Conference) dropped the opener 5-4 in nine innings, then lost 3-2 in the second game.

■ CSN SOFTBALL — At Rangely, Colo., the Coyotes completed a four-game sweep of Colorado Northwestern by taking a doubleheader, winning the first game 5-3 and the second 10-0.

CSN (26-15, 22-13 SWAC) has won five in a row and nine of its last 12.
