UNLV volleyball sweeps UNR

The UNLV volleyball team swept UNR 25-8, 25-20, 25-18 in a Mountain West Conference match on Saturday at Cox Pavilion.

Katlin Winters and Madeline Westman led the Rebels (16-8, 8-3 MWC) with nine kills apiece, Kinsey Caldwell had 22 assists, and Daryn Glenn had 14 digs.

■ MEN’S TENNIS – The UNLV doubles team of Johannes Markel and Tamas Batyi reached the final of the Larry Easley Memorial Classic at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. Markel and Batyi beat Southern Methodist’s Gaston Cuadranti and Nate Lammons 9-8 and beat Oklahoma State’s Rifat Biktyakov and Richard Del Nunzio, 8-6.

In singles for UNLV, Bernard Schoeman reached the Flight 2 final and Willie Sublette reached the Flight 2 consolation final.

■ SWIMMING AND DIVING – UNLV posted a pair of victories over Brigham Young, with the men’s team winning 156.5-143.5 and the women’s squad winning 161-139.

David Szele and Giacomo Gremizzi had two individial wins apiece for the men’s team, and Jessica Heim won two events for the women’s team.
