UNLV roundup: Volleyball team rallies, halts skid at nine
Mariena Hayden had 17 kills to help rally UNLV to a 3-2 win over host San Jose State in a Mountain West volleyball match Thursday.
Riley Jacobs had 38 assists and Leka Kiner-Falefa 23 digs for the Rebels (5-13, 1-4), who won by scores of 19-25, 25-18, 21-25, 25-20, 15-11 to halt a nine-match losing streak.
Ashley Owens added 11 kills and Elsa Descamps six blocks for UNLV in its first win in nine matches away from home.
Giulia Gavio had 23 kills, Nandyala Gama 21 kills and Breann Robinson 51 assists for the Spartans (11-5, 3-2), who had won three straight.

At Tulsa, Okla., senior Alexandr Cozbinov lost 6-4, 6-7, 6-1 to No. 18-ranked Julian Cash of Oklahoma State in the first round of the main draw of the St. Francis ITA All-American Championships.
Cozbinov next faces Texas Tech’s Artem Kapshuk on Friday in the consolation draw.
