UNLV roundup: Men’s, women’s soccer teams shut out

Allie Zwerling scored on a header off a pass from Kylee Smith in the 86th minute to lift Sacramento State to a 1-0 victory over UNLV in a nonconference women’s soccer match Friday in Sacramento, California.

The Rebels (4-1) had their 14-match regular-season unbeaten streak end and missed a chance to set a record for the best start in program history.

The Hornets (3-1) held a 10-9 edge in shots.

MEN’S SOCCER

At Albuquerque, N.M., Sam Gleadle and Nick Taylor scored in the first half, and Antoine Vial added a late penalty-kick goal to lead New Mexico (1-2) to a 3-0 victory over the Rebels (1-2), who were outshot 12-10.

Gleadle scored in the 19th minute on an assist from Devin Boyce, and Taylor’s goal, in the 38th minute, was assisted by Aaron Herrera. Vial capped the scoring in the 80th minute.

Danny Musovski, the Rebels’ top scorer, was issued a red card in the 17th minute, forcing UNLV to play short-handed the rest of the way.

VOLLEYBALL

At Las Cruces, N.M., the Rebels (3-2) were held to a minus-.009 hitting efficiency over the first three sets in a 25-17, 25-16, 22-25, 25-15 loss to North Dakota (6-1) in the New Mexico State Invitational.

Elsa Descamps had 10 kills, Riley Jacobs 33 assists and Leka Kiner-Falefa 21 digs for UNLV.
