UNLV roundup: Baseball downs Air Force, clinches No. 2 seed

Brandon Bayardi went 4-for-5 with two RBIs, and Patrick Armstrong hit a two-run home run to lead the UNLV baseball team to a 7-6 victory at Air Force.

The win clinched the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye for the Rebels (35-18, 17-12) in next week’s Mountain West tournament in Fresno, Calif.

The Falcons (15-36, 7-22) rallied for three runs in the ninth inning before freshman Brayden Torres recorded the final out for his first career save.

UNLV starter Buddy Borden (8-1) finished league play with a 6-0 record after allowing two earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and two walks.

Erik VanMeetren had three hits, and Matt McCallister and Justin Jones added two hits apiece for the Rebels, who plated three in the third to take a 3-1 lead and led the rest of the way.

■ TRACK — UNLV qualified seven individuals and its 4×100-meter relay to the NCAA West Preliminary on May 23-25 at the University of Texas’ Mike A. Myers Stadium.
