UNLV men’s soccer wins WAC title, gains NCAA berth

The UNLV men’s soccer team captured its first NCAA Tournament berth since 1988 by virture of its victory over Cal State Bakersfield in the Western Athletic Conference tournament title match Sunday in Seattle.

The score was tied at 1 after regulation and two overtime periods. The Rebels (15-4-1) won by outscoring the Roadrunners 4-2 in a penalty-kick shootout. Corey Ackley scored UNLV’s goal in the 16th minute of regulation, Sebastian Hernandez scored the decisive shootout goal, and Ryan Harding stopped two shots in the shootout.
