Squier’s sacrifice fly lifts UNLV to 3-2 baseball win at Ohio State

Payton Squier’s eighth-inning sacrifice fly brought home the decisive run Saturday in UNLV’s 3-2 win over Ohio State in a nonconference baseball game in Columbus, Ohio.

Joey Armstrong led off the eighth with a single, stole second, went to third on a throwing error and scored on Squier’s flyout to right.

Armstrong and Morgan Stotts each went 2-for-4 for the Rebels (14-19), who had an 8-7 edge in hits. Armstrong scored twice, and Stotts had an RBI double in the seventh that put UNLV up 2-0.

The Buckeyes (23-8), who had their six-game win streak end, tied the score on Aaron Gretz’s two-run homer in the seventh.

Edgar Montes’ two-out RBI single opened the scoring in the fourth inning.

Rebels starter D.J. Myers held Ohio State to two runs on six hits and one walk and struck out six in 6 1/3 innings. Joey Lauria (3-2) finished the seventh, and Zack Hartman worked the final two innings for his third save.
