Seven-run sixth sends Rebels to baseball win over Buckeyes

Justin Jones’ two-run single was the key hit in UNLV’s seven-run sixth inning as the Rebels edged Ohio State 8-7 in a nonconference baseball game Sunday at Wilson Stadium.

Jones, Cody Howard and Kyle Isbel had two hits apiece for UNLV (7-7), which won two of three from the Buckeyes (7-6-1) and has won four of its past five games.

Rebels starter Kenny Oakley (2-2) gave up four runs — none earned — on five hits and two walks and struck out nine in six innings.

Ronnie Dawson went 3-for-5 with two home runs, a double and five RBIs for Ohio State, which was charged with five errors — including two in UNLV’s big sixth inning.

Brady Cherry went 2-for-4 with a homer for the Buckeyes, who were outhit 11-10.
