San Diego State ends UNLV’s four-game baseball win streak

Bubba Derby pitched seven strong innings to outduel UNLV’s Kenny Oakley, and San Diego State scored three unearned runs in the seventh inning to top the Rebels 4-1 in a Mountain West baseball game Friday night in San Diego.

Derby (5-3) held UNLV (20-24, 6-16) to one run on three hits and five walks and struck out six to end the Rebels’ four-game win streak.

Oakley allowed one run on four hits and no walks and struck out five in six innings. He exited with the score tied at 1.

The Aztecs (31-16, 17-8) got to reliever Joey Lauria (3-3) for three unearned runs in the seventh. Spencer Thornton went 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs for San Diego State, which had a 6-5 edge in hits.

Morgan Stotts, whose double was the Rebels’ only extra-base hit, scored UNLV’s run on Nick Rodriguez’s second-inning single.
