Rebels picked to finish third in Mountain West baseball

UNLV’s baseball team was picked with UNR to finish third in the Mountain West on Tuesday by the league’s coaches.

The Rebels received two first-place votes and 25 points.

New Mexico was picked to win the conference, receiving three first-place votes and 30 points. San Diego State, which had 28 points but no first-place votes, was chosen second.

UNLV junior outfielder Joey Armstrong was named to the preseason all-conference team. He batted .302 last season with four home runs.

The Rebels, who shared the regular-season conference title with New Mexico last year, opens the season at 6:05 p.m. Friday against No. 23 Nebraska at Wilson Stadium.
