Rebels’ men, women swim past Air Force

The UNLV men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams swept Air Force on Saturday at Buchanan Natatorium.

The men’s team won 176-123, and the women earned a 149-117 victory.

Jonas Anderson, Richard Hortness and Tiger Christian paced the men’s team with two wins apiece. Anderson won the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke, Hortness took the 50 and 100 freestyle, and Christian won the 100 butterfly and 200 backstroke. Other winners were Kier Maitland (1,650 freestyle), Devin Phillips (100 backstroke), Peter Lorring (200 butterfly), Johan Claar (500 freestyle), David Seiler (200 individual medley) and Eli Tanimoto (3-meter diving).

The Rebels also won the 400 freestyle relay.

The women’s team had six two-event winners: Bailey Kuestermeyer in the 200 and 500 freestyle, Kim Bonney in the 100 freestyle and 200 breaststroke, Amanda Weinbrecht in the 100 and 200 backstroke, Ana Dangalakova in the 200 butterfly and 200 individual medley, Marina Sandback in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly, and Wendy Williams in 1- and 3-meter diving.

Lara Sreibers (1,000 freestyle) and Kelsey Clarke (200 breaststroke) also posted wins, and the Rebels captured the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay.

TRACK AND FIELD — At Flagstaff, Ariz., Lekeisha Lawson led UNLV at the Lumberjack Invitational, winning the 200-meter dash in a career indoor best of 24.91 seconds.

Lawson also finished third in the 60-meter dash and ran a leg on UNLV’s third-place team in the 1,600 relay.

Jennifer Shearer was fourth in the mile and the 3,000 meters, and Lauren Johnson took eighth in the 60. Brittney Bullocks and Kristen Johnson were fifth and eighth in the 200, and Bullocks was fifth in the 400.

Monique Humphries took second in the weight throw with a heave of 57 feet, 7 inches — 4 inches off her school record.

Sisters Kenya and Talyah Polee took fourth and fifth in the long jump, and Claire Schreiner was fourth in the high jump.

MEN’S TENNIS — At Boise, Idaho, 70th-ranked UNLV was blanked 4-0 by No. 22 Boise State at the ITA Mountain Region Team Playoff.

The Broncos, with four ranked players, posted straight-set wins at Nos. 1, 2, 4 and 5 singles.
