Rebels force extras, but fall to UC Riverside

Vince Fernandez hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the 11th inning to lift UC Riverside to an 8-6 home victory over the UNLV baseball team in a wild game on Tuesday afternoon.

The Rebels forced extra innings with two runs in the top of the ninth and added a run in the top of the 10th, but couldn’t hold the lead.

A.J. VanMeetren singled in Edgar Montes for UNLV (16-23) as the Rebels struck first in extra innings. Cody Sporrer drove in Casey Sheehan with two outs in the bottom of the frame to extend the game.

A.J. Hernandez had an RBI single and VanMeetren scored on a balk to tie the game in the ninth, but Ryan Lillie of UC Riverside (12-26) stranded runners at second and third with no outs to keep the game tied.

Joey Armstrong drove in three runs for UNLV.
