Pepperdine’s Kaitlin Drolson, Danielle Kang and Taylor Kane all shot 3-under-par 69s to help the 25th-ranked Waves surge to a two-shot lead Tuesday after the second round of the UNLV Spring Invitational women’s golf tournament at Boulder Creek.
Pepperdine shot 10-under 278 for a two-day total of 563, overtaking first-round leader Brigham Young (565), which shot 2 under.
The Rebels shot 10 over and remain fourth at 594, 20 shots behind third-place and 24th-ranked Oklahoma, heading into today’s final round.
"It’s going to be tough to make that up," UNLV coach Amy Bush said. "We had a tough time out there, and our goal is to try to catch Oklahoma and improve our national ranking."
The Rebels, ranked No. 42 in the Golfstat collegiate poll, were again led by Therese Koelbaek. The senior from Denmark shot 1-over 73 and is tied for ninth place individually at 143.
BYU’s Kelsey Vines extended her lead with a 2-under 70 for a two-day total of 136, four shots ahead of Drolson and Kang.
UNLV’s Katerina Prorokova carded a 74 and is tied for 15th at 146. Alejandra Guacaneme also shot 74 and is tied for 30th at 150. Ellis Keenan (77) was tied for 49th and Bethany Glassford (83) was tied for 65th place.
