Ninth-inning hit lifts Rebels to baseball win over San Diego State

Max Smith’s two-run single in the ninth inning lifted UNLV to a 7-6 victory over San Diego State in a Mountain West baseball game Friday in San Diego.

The Rebels (12-17, 5-8) trailed 5-2 before scoring three runs in the seventh, highlighted by a two-out RBI triple by Kyle Isbel followed by Nick Rodriguez’s RBI single.

Isbel and Cooper Esmay had two hits apiece for UNLV, which won its third straight despite being outhit 14-9.

Cody Roper (1-1), who entered in relief of starter D.J. Myers in the third inning, held the Aztecs (7-20, 2-8) to one run on seven hits and three walks in six innings.

Jordan Verdon had three RBIs for San Diego State, which has lost four of its past five.
