Men’s golf tied for lead in Air Force event

The UNLV men’s golf team, ranked 22nd, was tied for the lead Saturday after the first two rounds of the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The Rebels shot 12-under-par 276 in the morning, then followed in the second round with a 4-under 284 for a 16-under 560 total at Eisenhower Golf Club. Fellow Mountain West Conference team Colorado State matched UNLV, paced by Bryce Hanstad, who had the individual lead at 6-under 138.

UNLV’s Eddie Olson and Ji Moon were tied for fourth, two shots back at 140, and Brett Kanda — who fired a 7-under 65 in the first round — was tied for seventh at 142.

The 17-team tournament, hosted by Air Force, concludes with today’s third round.

• VOLLEYBALL — The Rebels split two matches in the UNLV Invitational, beating Cal State Fullerton before getting swept by Miami of Ohio at Cox Pavilion.

The Rebels topped Fullerton 23-25, 25-17, 25-16, 25-23, led by Melody Nua’s 34 assists and 10 digs. Samantha Richard had 12 kills and 17 digs, and Jessica Walters had 13 kills for UNLV (2-4).

Against Miami of Ohio, the Rebels got drilled in the first two games and fell just short in the third in a 25-16, 25-14, 25-23 setback.

No UNLV player reached double-digit kills against the RedHawks (4-2), who also beat 10th-ranked Wisconsin earlier in the day.

Wisconsin bounced back by beating Fullerton.
