Local colleges: Fedde pitches one-hitter in UNLV baseball win

Sophomore Erick Fedde pitched a one-hitter and struck out 10 to lead UNLV to a 4-1 Mountain West baseball victory over Air Force at Wilson Stadium.
Fedde (4-0) walked one in his complete-game effort. Matt McCallister, Joey Swanner and Collin Yelich each had two hits for the Rebels (18-8, 3-4 MW), who scored three runs in the sixth.
Also: UNLV lost to Colorado State 18-10 in a Mountain West softball game at Fort Collins, Colo. Stefany Valentino homered twice and drove in four runs, and Tayler Van Acker had three hits for the Rebels (14-20, 0-2 MW).
UNLV junior David Szele finished 15th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 53.69 seconds at the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Indianapolis. The finish gives Szele honorable mention All-America status. The Rebels are 28th with 12 points, with Michigan first with 336.
Fourth-ranked College of Southern Nevada defeated Colorado Northwestern 10-8 and 12-3 in a Scenic West Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader at Rangely, Colo. Cory Welch was 6-for-9 in the two games for the Coyotes (27-8, 15-3), and Morgan Stotts homered twice.
Mikela Manewa went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs, and Rhiana Balaun had a three-run homer and four RBIs to power CSN to a 12-4 victory over sixth-ranked Southern Idaho in the second game of a SWAC softball doubleheader at Russell Road Recreation Complex. The Coyotes (22-19, 15-15) lost the first game, 10-2.
