Kaui sets pace as UNLV women win Mountain West golf tournament

Alexandra Kaui claimed medalist honors to lead the UNLV women’s golf team to a nine-stroke victory in the Mountain West Championships on Wednesday at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California.

Kaui, a junior, shot 3-under-par 69 in the final round for a 4-under 212 total and a five-stroke victory in the 45-player field, the largest individual winning margin in tournament history. Kaui is the fifth conference medalist in UNLV history and first since 2011.

The 17th-ranked Rebels shot even-par 288 in the final round for a 13-over 877 total and their fifth tournament title. No. 22 San Diego State placed second.

Mackenzie Raim finished fourth at 3-over 219, and fellow UNLV sophomore Harley Dubsky tied for seventh at 7-over 223.

Rebels coach Amy Bush-Herzer was named league coach of the year for the second time in six seasons.
