Grand slam sends New Mexico to baseball win over Rebels

Carl Stajduhar hit a fifth-inning grand slam to back strong pitching by Tyler Stevens and lead New Mexico to a 6-2 victory over UNLV in a Mountain West baseball game Saturday at Wilson Stadium.
Stevens (7-3), a sophomore right-hander, held the Rebels (21-25, 11-12) to one run on seven hits and four walks and struck out six in eight innings, throwing 72 of his 122 pitches for strikes.
Stajduhar finished 3-for-5 with the home run and a double, helping the Lobos (32-17, 17-6) to a 10-8 edge in hits.
Nick Ames hit a solo home run in the fourth to give UNLV a short-lived 1-0 lead. Kyle Isbel hit an RBI single in the ninth for the Rebels, who ended the game with the bases loaded.
Payton Squier went 3-for-4 for UNLV, and Isbel and Ames each had two hits.
UNLV starter Kenny Oakley (4-6) gave up five earned runs on four hits and three walks and struck out four in five innings.
