Bases-loaded single in 10th inning sends UNLV past Air Force in MW baseball

Payton Squier’s bases-loaded single in the 10th inning sent UNLV to an 8-7 win over Air Force in a Mountain West baseball game Saturday at Wilson Stadium.
A.J. VanMeetren led off the bottom of the 10th by drawing a walk. After a single by Nick Rodriguez and an intentional walk to Joey Armstrong, Squier lined a single to center to end the game.
Squier, Rodriguez, Edgar Montes and Erik VanMeetren had two hits apiece for the Rebels (18-23, 5-15), who scored three in the seventh inning to tie the score at 7.
Squier and Erik VanMeetren each singled during the rally, which included an error, two walks and a bases-loaded hit batsman.
Zack Hartman (2-1) got the win with three perfect innings of relief.
Spencer Draws had two doubles, two RBIs and two runs for Air Force (19-22, 10-13), which was outhit 11-10.
Before the game, the teams played the final two innings of Friday’s game that was suspended because of faulty lighting. The Rebels won 7-2, behind Squier’s hitting and a strong start by Kenny Oakley.
Squier had a two-run triple during UNLV’s five-run fifth inning and added an RBI single in the seventh. Oakley (3-4) held the Falcons to two runs on five hits and two walks and struck out four in six innings.
