HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL AS NEW SEASON OPENS

Sometimes in college football, expectations are everything. The success or failure of a season has a great deal to do with what the fans expect going into the year. Such is the case as UNLV kicks off a the season at Sam Boyd Stadium tonight against Utah State.

A casual observer of Rebel football asked today, “How is UNLV going to be this year.”

The response was, “Pretty good. They could win five or six games this season.”

The first person was dismayed and asked how five or six wins could be considered good.

“Hey, when you’ve had four straight two-win seasons, a .500 record would be a huge improvement,” came the reply.

So true.

This year’s Rebels play seven games at home and appear to have some talent.

Only time will tell, but so far so good. The Rebels took the field in their new red uniforms with gray sleeves and won the toss. UNLV has deferred and Utah State will get the ball.
