Football recruit explains decision to renege on commitment to UNLV

A day after reneging on a commitment to UNLV in favor of Louisville, linebacker Horace Miller said he wished the Rebels well and felt at home with the Cardinals.

Miller, who attends Baltimore’s Dunbar High School, said he never felt pressured at Louisville when he visited this past weekend. He said he didn’t choose the Cardinals because they are closer to home or for football reasons, but believed Louisville would be a better overall fit.

"I didn’t go on the visit expecting to be blown away and de-commit," Miller said.

He added a talk with assistant coach Larry Slade convinced him to choose Louisville. Slade asked Miller which school he would favor if football wasn’t in the equation.

"I feel like I’m already there," Miller said. "They talked about their pros and cons. There’s no such thing as a perfect place, and I respect their players and the coaches."

He said UNLV defensive line coach Andre Patterson, who recruited Miller, took the news well.

"He never said anything bad about Louisville," Miller said. "(Teammate) Courtney (Bridget) is going there (to UNLV), so I’m definitely going to watch them. They didn’t take it that I stabbed them in the back."
