Clayton looks good so far

CLAYTON STARTS STRONG
UNLV quarterback Omar Clayton is looking strong early on. Through the first quarter, the junior is 5 for 7 for 86 yards. He has been in control, is making good decisions and is accurate with his passing as the Rebels took a 10-0 lead into the second quarter.
PAYNE GETS FLAGGED — TWICE
UNLV wide receiver Phillip Payne has not been as smart as his QB. The former Western High star has been flagged twice for penalties. The first was a personal foul after the play, the second for offensive pass interference. The second flag was more costly as it wiped out a big gainer by Ryan Wolfe. The Rebels had to settle for a 39-yard field goal.
CLAUSEN GETS IN
Backup quarterback Mike Clausen was put in at the end of the first quarter by coach Mike Sanford. Clayton is fine. Sanford wanted to give Clausen some reps. He did the same thing at times last year, so it’s no big deal.
