UNLV falls to UC Riverside on the road

UNLV dropped the opener of a seven-game road trip on Tuesday, falling to UC Riverside, 8-2.

First baseman Morgan Stotts was the Rebels’ hitting star, going 3-for-4. Joey Armstrong had two hits. UNLV starter Kenny Oakley allowed six runs and took the loss, dropping his record to 3-4.

The Rebels (28-16) now travel to South Carolina for games against James Madison on Saturday and Clemson on Sunday and Monday. They finish the trip with three games against San Diego State on May 9-11.

In other news, UNLV first baseman Patrick Armstrong was named the Mountain West player of the week. Armstrong went 6-for-12 with two homers and seven RBIs during the Rebels’ three-game sweep of New Mexico.

UNLV softball player Garie Blando also earned conference player of the week honors. The Rebels lead-off hitter went 12 for 21 as the Rebels split six games against San Diego State and Fresno State.
