TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK by Richard Eng
Post Time 12:30 p.m.
Race 1 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds
1 Rprettyboyfloyd – Lost a dirty nose last time out; Rafael Bejarano is serving a 3-day suspension, so Corey Nakatani rides.
6 Party Time – Part of a blanket finish with the chalk last time out; Bob Baffert give George Woolf winner Corey Lanerie a ride.
Long Shot – 3 Arkenstone
Race 2 – 1 mile, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
4 L X Sunrise – Like the cut back in distance where she should be stronger at the end; Saul Arias is OK by me, and offers value.
6 Warrenspoweroflove – Stretching out around 2-turns for the first time; should have tactical speed to attend the early pace.
Long Shot – 2 Lovely Instinct
Race 3 – 1 mile, $100,000 Dream of Summer, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
5 Unusual Way – Could lead a parade of chalk, or chalk to try and upset; did everything but win in a gutsy try at Sam Houston.
1 Halo Dolly – Consistent sort faces restricted Cal-breds tonight; she’ll save every inch of ground along the rail.
Long Shot – 4 Curvy Cat
Race 4 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $58,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
3 Baruta – Just missed in a big U.S. debut for Richard Mandella; big rider switch to the main man Gary Stevens.
7 Tizmetizyou – Been away since June, but showed talent back then; first time down the hill should be very interesting.
Long Shot – 4 Kyriaki
Race 5 – 1 mile, Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
1 Include the Cat – Has lost two close calls under Brice Blanc, now switching to Joe Talamo; Peter Miller barn remains hot.
8 Legacy – Lots of chalk possible today, this one may offer some value; Drayden Van Dyke been riding in Phoenix on the dark days.
Long Shot – 2 Proud Vixen
Race 6 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $32,000, Claiming $25,000, 4-year-olds and up
8 Lucky Primo – Tight call in a wide open affair; key for me is a huge class drop from the Cal Cup Classic to $25K price tag.
3 Square Dancer – After 3 straight in the money finishes, tries a much lower class; Corey Lanerie again is given a live mount.
Long Shot – 12 Depreciable
Race 7 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $8,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
5 Brown Is Beige – Upset winner in last will try to make it 2 in a row; 5-YO mare had not win in 2 years, may like the feeling.
1 Eltoninadress – Claimed by Jeff Mullins off a hard fought second; 5-for-5 in the money over Santa Anita main track.
Long Shot – 2 Giannonatti
Race 8 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $30,000, 3-year-olds and up
1 Fighting On – Finished willingly down the hill in his last two; moves inside where it can get tight at times.
8 Sheer Talent – Ran OK in first race off the claim by Mark Glatt; like the cut back in distance, can expect better today.
Long Shot – 4 Red N Black Attack
Race 9 – 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
3 Fast Moka Too – Was well meant in last but got tired the final furlong; second start off the layoff, should be a lot tighter.
8 Rich in Tradition – Has cashed 10 paychecks but no finish was closer than last time; camera shy, but hard to leave out too.
Long Shot – 10 Dulcemia
Best Bet – 3 Fast Moka Too (race 9)
Santa Anita Park Saturday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 17/6/$56.40; Long Shots, 8/1/$6.40; Best Bet, 1/1/$4.20
