This Pirates player is really tired of getting hit by pitches

Andrew McCutchen is tired of getting hit by pitches. After getting plunked a career-high 10 times last season, the Pittsburgh Pirates center fielder already has been hit eight times this season.

McCutchen was plunked by Braves pitchers on Friday and Saturday, when Julio Teheran hit him on his elbow in the first inning. He was forced to leave the game and underwent X-rays, which came back negative.

The former National League Most Valuable Player joked after the game that he may need to take matters into his own hands so pitchers stop throwing at him.

“I don’t know, maybe I need to drop-kick a pitcher,” McCutchen told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “Maybe that’ll scare them into not throwing me in.

“I hate getting hit, but worse than that I guess pitchers don’t like getting their ERAs run up with a fastball over the middle of the plate I can do damage with. I’m sure they’d rather hit me than do that.”

McCutchen wore an elbow guard during Sunday’s game and joked on Twitter that he might eventually opt for full body armor.

“Elbow guard (check),” he posted. “Rib and Back guard (check), Shin guard (check), RoboCop outfit??? #WorkingOnIt.”

On Monday, McCutchen went 2-for-5 with a RBI and three walks to help Pittsburgh to a 5-4 win over the Detroit Tigers in 14 innings.
