Switch-pitcher makes debut for A’s
Venditte reflects on his journey to making MLB history
Switch-pitcher Pat Venditte retired batters with both arms in his big-league debut Friday night at Boston’s Fenway Park, tossing two scoreless innings for the Oakland Athletics in a 4-2 loss to the Red Sox.
The ambidextrous pitcher — who threw two perfect innings against the Cubs at Cashman Field in March during Big League Weekend — entered in the seventh inning as organist Josh Kantor played Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now.”
Venditte, 29, compiled a 1.36 ERA in 17 outings this season for Triple-A Nashville and has a career 2.37 ERA in eight minor league seasons.
