Sundevils fend off Pioneers to earn extra-inning victory

Cory Keplinger’s bases-loaded single in the top of the ninth scored two runs, and the Eldorado baseball team went on to defeat host Canyon Springs 10-7 on Tuesday.

Keplinger was 2-for-5 with three RBIs, and his single keyed a five-run ninth. The Pioneers scored two runs in the bottom of the inning but couldn’t maintain the rally.

Tyler Smith was 4-for-4 with a triple, an inside-the-park home run and three RBIs for Canyon Springs.

Valley 9, Desert Pines 8 — At Valley, David Michaels scored on Wes Stephenson’s infield hit in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Vikings over the Jaguars.

Valley trailed 8-5 entering the seventh. Miguel Michelangeli scored the tying run when Travis Bartcart was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Larry Valdez went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Dayan Oses hit a home run for Valley.

James Young was 3-for-4 with a triple and three runs scored for Desert Pines.

Spring Valley 10, Clark 0 — At Spring Valley, Kenny McDowall and Anthony Forsythe combined for a three-hitter as the Grizzlies downed the Chargers in five innings.

Cody Collins and Enzo Bello each went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Spring Valley, and Connor McKenna was 2-for-3 with two runs.

Durango 12, Western 0 — At Western, Aaron Kurcz and Kyle Dimartino combined for a two-hitter as the Trailblazers defeated the Warriors in five innings.

Brad Johnson went 3-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs and Ryan Kuehl went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs for Durango.

Las Vegas 11, Chaparral 7 — At Chaparral, Alex Church doubled twice to lead the Wildcats over the Cowboys.

Christian Lucero went 2-for-4 with three RBIs for Las Vegas.

Chris Juneman homered for Chaparral.

Sierra Vista 12, Bonanza 0 — At Bonanza, Justin Baca pitched a four-hitter with seven strikeouts as the Lions downed the Bengals in five innings.

Sierra Vista’s Rich Michelin was 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs and three RBIs, and teammate Chris Krumme went 2-for-3 with three runs.

Faith Lutheran 7-11, Moapa Valley 1-4 — At Faith Lutheran, the Crusaders limited the Pirates to seven hits in sweeping the doubleheader.

Chuck Buchanan allowed an unearned run on three hits while striking out seven in the first game. In the second game, Dave Anderson had a triple, a home run and five RBIs.

Calvary Chapel 14, Laughlin 0 — At Calvary Chapel, Cameron Harper pitched a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts to lead the Lions.

Canyon Springs 6, Eldorado 5 — At Canyon Springs, Tiffany Hanley walked with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to force home the winning run.

Fernanda Alfaro went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs for the Pioneers, who rallied from a 5-0 deficit. Amanda Bowler added two hits, and she also struck out 10 to pick up the win. Losing pitcher Jasmine Pickett struck out 13.

Clark 5, Spring Valley 3 — At Spring Valley, the Chargers rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh to defeat the Grizzlies.

Jordyn McDonald and Phylicia Luna each had an RBI single in the seventh for Clark. Elisa Dawson was 2-for-3 for the Chargers.

Jasmine Wilson and Tyiama Turner each went 2-for-3 for the Grizzlies.

Sierra Vista 6, Bonanza 3 — At Bonanza, Kristin Delahoussaye went 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs to lead the Lions over the Bengals.

Kelsey McCoy pitched a five-hitter and went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Sierra Vista. The Lions scored four runs in the top of the seventh to break a 2-2 tie.

Bonanza’s Courtney Bauder was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Desert Pines 9, Valley 8 — At Valley, the Jaguars led 9-1 after two innings and held on for the win over the Vikings.

Valley outhit Desert Pines 10-7 but committed six errors. Valley’s Lorena Villamar was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Durango 13, Western 2 — At Western, freshman Taylor Short fired a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts and hit a double, two triples and three RBIs as the Trailblazers trounced the Warriors.

Durango’s Hailey Hatchel doubled twice and Ally Voge went 4-for-5.

Las Vegas 11, Chaparral 0 — At Chaparral, Tajia Law threw a one-hitter with seven strikeouts to lead the Wildcats over the Cowboys in five innings.

Law also went 4-for-4 with a double to lead the offense. Tiffini Lucero and Jennifer Gliddon each added three hits for Las Vegas.

Moapa Valley 4-5, Faith Lutheran 14-0 — At Faith Lutheran, the Pirates and the Crusaders split a doubleheader.

Faith Lutheran’s Demuriel Green went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and three RBIs and Angie Miller was 3-for-5 with two RBIs in the first game.
