Former Las Angeles Dodgers base-stealing great Maury Wills, left, and a young Brady Exber, center, had a lifelong friendship that began when Exber’s dad, Mel, and the former Dodger captain became friends. Wills, who died Monday at age 89, gave the spikes in which he stole a baseball record 104 bases in 1962 to Mel Exber, who had them bronzed and put on display at the old Las Vegas Club in downtown Las Vegas that Exber founded.
