Three former UNLV swimmers are competing in Beijing — Joe Bartoch and Richard Hortness for Canada and Jonas Andersson for Sweden.
Andersson began his portion Saturday by finishing third in his 100-meter breaststroke heat in 1:01.77. It was the 31st fastest time among nine heats, not close to qualifying for the semifinals.
Alexander Dale of Norway set an Olympics record with a time of 59.41 to finish first overall.
On Thursday, Hortness will swim the 50 free prelims and Bartoch the 100-meter fly prelims. Hortness and Andersson are also involved in relays with their respective teams.
