Postcard from London: Where scoring won’t get you a medal

Yes, I know. It’s not the most inspiring picture. Ansel Adams’ legend is safe. But here’s the thing: You’re staring at part of the athlete’s village for the 2012 Games. If we are to believe what has been written (and verified by, well, the athletes), there is a ton of sex going on behind that wall.

Home to more than 10,000 athletes and 150,000 condoms inside the village here in London, pre-competition testosterone runs higher than Usain Bolt does fast. Athletes need an avenue to release their pent-up energy and, more often than not, choose each other. Sometimes, as legend has it, on the grass between buildings in the middle of the day.

The village is like your average college campus, although everyone is incredibly fit. It has a movie theater, 5,000-seat dining area, music studio, pool and more than 50 chaplains on site representing five faiths. I’m just not sure how many find time for confession, what with all the debauchery going on.
